Finding a cruise vacation that meets the needs of every family member can be tough. While you may be in search of some peace and quiet, the kids will probably be eager to play. To help you find a cruise that fits your family’s needs, U.S. News ranked the best family cruises using a methodology that factors in health ratings, reputation among experts and approval among families.
1. Disney Cruise Line
Cruising with Disney
Disney Cruise Line’s four ships – Disney Magic, Disney Wonder, Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy – receive kudos from families and critics alike for their kid-friendly atmospheres, whimsical amenities and spacious staterooms. The theme of Disney cruises is understated enough that sentimental adults looking to reconnect with their childhood fantasies will enjoy sailing just as much as the kids. In fact, each ship boasts secluded adults-only pools, restaurants and lounges (though still not as many as other cruise lines). Although Disney’s ships vary in size, each vessel carries approximately one crew member for every three passengers.
2. Royal Caribbean International
Cruising with Royal Caribbean
Despite its name, Royal Caribbean International offers voyages to more than 260 destinations across 68 countries on six continents. While you can certainly sail to the Caribbean and Mexico, you can also board a ship to Alaska, navigate the waterways of Europe or ride the waves down under to Australia and New Zealand.
Depending on which itinerary you choose, you can taste local fare, tag along on a sightseeing tour or enjoy a nature hike – all of which are offered as shore excursions. Royal Caribbean ships depart from ports all over the United States, including Seattle, Boston and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, as well as from numerous international ports. Itineraries range from two-night trips to 19-night journeys.
